Helen Betty Osborne

This poem by Marilyn Dumont, from her book “A Really Good Brown Girl” (1996), captures outsiders’ mistreatment of Indigenous women. The poem is about Helen Betty Osborne, a 19 year old Cree woman from Manitoba who was sexually assaulted and murdered in 1971.
