ONWA is accepting poetry submissions for the 9th volume of the Strong Hands Stop Violence Poetry Book until December 31, 2024, to raise awareness about violence against Indigenous women and girls.

“Little Moons” is a graphic novel that explores themes of grief and healing through the lens of Ojibwe traditions, following a young girl’s journey after her sister’s disappearance.

“Rise, Red River” is a play co-produced by Théâtre Cercle Molière, Prairie Theatre Exchange, and Article 11, directed by Tara Beagan, exploring the stories of Indigenous women along the Red River and highlighting MMIWG.

In “Bad Medicine,” Christopher Twin’s young adult graphic novel combines Cree folklore with horror, fantasy, and contemporary Indigenous issues, exploring themes like MMIWG, addiction, trauma, and ecological decline through ghost stories told by Cree teens, enhanced by evocative illustrations, and concluding with a hopeful message of youth resilience.

The Canadian Library project uses micro gallery art installations to raise awareness of MMIWG, displaying books with fabric covers designed by Indigenous artists.

This graphic novel by Brianna Jonnie with Nahanni Shingoose and art by Nshannacappo is derived from excerpts of a letter Jonnie wrote to the Winnipeg Chief of Police when she was 14, which went viral and was also the basis of a documentary film. In her letter, she calls out the authorities for neglecting to immediately investigate missing Indigenous people.
