Memorial for Hilary Bonnell
A large stone memorial for Hilary Bonnell was unveiled in Esgenoôpetitj First Nation on October 4, 2023. The unveiling was preceded by a march to the site of the monument, followed by drumming, singing and speeches. The stone memorial also has the letters MMIWG carved into it, above Hilary’s engraved photo and name.

A granite monument near the rail bridge and Oodena Circle features a female form with polished and rough surfaces to symbolize life’s struggles and a circle that represents connectivity and light, serving as a memorial for MMIWG families, as explained by adviser Nahanni Fontaine.

Spirit Sisters Rock
The Sisters in Spirit memorial stone, built by the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and unveiled on the national day to honour MMIWG, stands at Grande Prairie Regional College, featuring a sandblasted image of a jingle dress dancer symbolizing water and healing. It is a place people can go to for healing, for prayers and for remembrance.

“The Journey of Hope” Red Dress monument in Prince George
This monument was unveiled by the Red Dress Campaign in Prince George, to recognize the loss of Indigenous sisters, mothers, daughters and loved ones. The monument is located on Highway 16. The book “Highway of Tears” by Jessica McDiarmid, as well as CDS and a limited edition print, both by artist Kym Gouchie, were also sold during the event.
