The Native Women’s Association of Canada’s (NWAC) has developed 66 concrete actions based on the National Inquiry’s 231 Calls for Justice, and the NWAC Annual Scorecard Action Plan 2022-23 details their progress on implementing them over that year. Of these 66 actions, NWAC has seen substantial progress on 51, some progress on 13, and little to no progress on two actions.

Members of the National Family Advisory Circle were volunteers who provided advice to the National Inquiry. The role of NFAC was to help guide the work of the National Inquiry and to serve as the voice of truth for the families and communities of murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls.

This report by the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) addresses the systemic links between the over-incarceration of Indigenous women, girls, Two-Spirit, Transgender, and Gender-Diverse people and the ongoing MMIWG2S+ genocide, highlighting the need for culturally relevant, trauma-informed, and Indigenous-led approaches. Along with their final report, NWAC released a toolkit to aid in the safe release from carceral institutions.
