Empowered Filmmaker Masterclass 2023: MMIWG2S Community Stories
On August 9, 2023, the Empowered Filmmaker Masterclass premiered a short film on MMIWG2S in Terrace, BC, created by participants from British Columbia and AB under the mentorship of Farhan Umedaly, aiming to raise awareness and foster understanding through storytelling, supported by STORYHIVE and VoVo Productions.

Shades of Our Sisters
Shades of Our Sisters celebrates the spirit and memories of Sonya Cywink and Patricia Carpenter, two young Indigenous Women who were tragically taken. The project also seeks to honour the lives and memories of all MMIWGT2S through the “Feathers for Our Women Project” and by connecting with other families who have also lost loved ones.

Finding Dawn
This documentary by Métis filmmaker Christine Welsh is on the epidemic of missing or murdered Indigenous women in Canada. The film focuses on five Indigenous women, three of whom went missing or were murdered in Vancouver’s skid row, the Highway of Tears in northern BC, and Saskatoon. Welsh tried to give a voice to those who do not always have a voice.
